North Shore School-Aged Occupational Therapy Program

The BC Centre for Ability is contracted by MCFD to provide occupational therapy (OT) services to children registered with the North and West Vancouver School Boards. Following referral of a student, OTs provide consultation to teachers, support staff and parents using a model of collaborative consultation. The goal is to maximize student participation in the educational setting and achieve educational goals. Occupational therapy can address fine motor and writing skills, sensory processing and self-care skills. Equipment and alternative approaches to tasks are frequently recommended. Therapists also assist with access to technology and architectural/environmental accessibility.

Who Do We Serve

Students attending North and West Vancouver District schools who have physical, neurological and developmental disabilities are eligible for ongoing consultation services.

To Make A Referral

Referrals are made by the school-based team with the consent of parents.

Commitment to Families

Parental awareness and consent is an integral part of the process and all written information is shared with the family. Although the service is primarily school-based, home visits can be made to address self care skills which impact classroom performance.

Cost Of Program

This program is funded by the Ministry of Children and Family Development in conjunction with each school district. There is no cost to parents.
